Ionad Foghlama Chléire has been running Irish courses for adults since 2004. We have run locally organised courses with FETAC certification, language courses for the Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge as well as the very useful weekend intensive courses for applicants to colleges for primary teaching.

With the improvements planned by the Fine Gael/Labour government for Irish language teacher training we are ready to share our experience in teaching teachers techniques of integrating Irish into many aspects of the primary curriculum and make the teaching and learning of Irish in schools better

Course for Adult learners: summer 2011

Course features: summer 2011
In our summer courses for adults we spend ca 75% of the course time to promote active language knowledge and 25% on passive language knowledge.

Typical course day
10 am – 10.50 am conversation practice and vocabulary building
10.50am-11.00am coffee break
11am-11.50 am reading & translating or writing/grammar drills or listening practice
11.50-12.10 pm coffee break
12.10 – 1pm creative learning involving language games, artwork, presentation making; question and answer session

Afternoon/evening: 1 ½ -2 hrs outdoor activities through medium of Irish (kayaking, kiting, walks,  team games) alternating with lecture on culture or literature.

Note that times of outdoor activities and classroom activities might be swapped around depending on weather and tide conditions.

To make sure you benefit from your course and enjoy it please bring pen, paper and adequate walking shoes, raingear and swimsuit. Online course resources and recordings we do in class will be made available online for download, so you can access them from home or college.
